10/08/2021	After attempting to make an online payment on a Halifax credit card while in the Philippines, the transaction was declined even before the bank's usual verification SMS message. This was suspicious but I then received an automated call from this UK +44 345 number claiming to be the Halifax, it gave me a code and a choice of numbers to call to get the fraud team to unblock my account. Such a message was stupid, nobody could remember such a list of random digits so again raised suspicions. Nevertheless after I called a genuine Halifax number, I was told they do send such a message if they try but fail to send an SMS alert, and indeed several phone number checking web site confirmed it was the Halifax. IT WAS NOT. A subsequent call to Halifax confirmed that it was a scam, there was no transaction on the account at the date I made the payment. The company I was attempting to pay had been hacked and my transaction had been intercepted before even reaching the bank. I note that some websites that confirm this was not genuine have themselves been subject to denial of service attacks and have gone offline. BEWARE THE SOPHISTICATION OF SCAMMERS IS NOW AN EPIDEMIC IN ITSELF. Scam call Negative
20/11/2020	I think this actually is the Halifax. They rang but left no ansafone message. But my wife had had problems a short while earlier making a purchase using her partner card and I then found a text on my system from the Halifax which tied in with the transaction - plus info was quoted which only the company would know. I responded to the text and was sent an immediate acknowledgement. Safe number Safe
